I just found out from this that Roger Hui had died. I never met him, and I've never done anything serious in J, but I'll always appreciate the wonderful mind-bending experience I've had solving several dozen project Euler problems in J for fun.
This was presented at the HOPL IV (History of Programming Languages 4) conference. HOPL is an infrequent conference of ACM SIGPLAN (Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group for Programming Languages.)
The proceedings of the HOPL conferences are really interesting reading.
