If you study math, and then go coding videogames.... technically, you're not in a math field anymore, but a math degree helps you a lot with programming. On the other hand, if you flip burgers in McDonalds, no matter which degree you have, it's gone to waste.

Not if you figure out a cheaper way to flip burgers, which you can make a mint selling.
